Christmas in Merimbula 2022
With just a little over 5 weeks to go until Christmas Day, it’s time to start decking the halls and making Merimbula merry.
Market Street Garlands – Attention CBD landlords, retailers, and businesses
Our contractor will start installing the garlands over the next few weeks. The Chamber has purchased more garlands this year in a bid to reach our goal of running them the full length of Market Street.
As our volunteers are currently stretched to capacity, we are relying on landlords, businesses, and retailers to accept this email as the formal notification of installation.
If you have any questions or concerns about when, where, and how the garlands were installed last year, please let us know asap and we will pass on the information.
For businesses who will be having garlands installed for the first time, we will contact you directly to discuss placement etc. if you are keen to participate.
Decorative colour theme
If you are looking for inspiration, the colour theme for the town’s decoration plan is to continue with a vintage look of bright blue, red and silver, which is the colour scheme of our garlands. This ties in nicely with our Hamptons inspired hand crafted timber trees, our vintage Santas, elves, and reindeer blow molds, and other streetscape decorations.
Christmas Shopping Day and Santa’s Visit
The Christmas Shopping Day will be on Saturday 10 December. CBD businesses are encouraged to consider what they may like to do in terms of sales, special offers, and/or events and let us know so we can promote your activity.
Santa will be visiting the Merimbula CBD on Saturday 10 December from 11am-1pm, ready for family photos.
Big Christmas Tree and Sleigh
Despite weeks of back-and-forth negotiations, we have not been able to come to an agreement with the land owner of the Centrepoint Square landlord to erect the tree on the previous location.
We contacted Council to see if we could erect it on Hylands Corner but there would have been considerable cost involved in engineering supports for the tree which we could not cover.
We are deeply disappointed that this means we will not be able to erect the tree or the sleigh this year however we will continue to work with the council to find an alternative site in time for next year. We will keep you posted about our future fundraising efforts that we hope will be able to raise the funds required to permanently relocate the big tree to Highlands Corner.
For now, the Chamber is focusing on all the good things we can do with the time and resources we have, to make Christmas in Merimbula a happy occasion.
Christmas Decoration Donations
Each year the Chamber of Commerce invests time and money in to decorating the town for Christmas. This benefits everyone that visits town, not just the businesses that are there. We don’t receive any funding or grants for this but we welcome donations from individuals, businesses and organisations.
The donations help us buy more decorations each year, install them around town, then remove and store them each year. We appreciate your support.
If you would like to make a donation just click on the link below and you can donate anything from $50 to $200
