The Essence of Merimbula celebrates 4 years.

The Essence

Last week, The Essence of Merimbula celebrated its fourth anniversary, marking an incredible milestone for this unique collaborative venture run by a not-for-profit organisation. Launched in November 2020 by the Merimbula Chamber of Commerce, the store has become a vibrant hub showcasing a diverse mix of local artisan products, including eco-friendly goods, artwork, skincare, and clothing.

Since its inception, The Essence has been more than just a store – it’s been a launchpad for local entrepreneurs to share their talents and grow their businesses. Some vendors have even gone on to open their own stores, like “As You Are Lifestyle” just a few doors away.

Nigel Ayling, past Chamber President who helped set up the store, joined the celebrations and reflected on its journey: “Given everything we’ve faced since opening, it’s amazing to see how far The Essence has come. We’ve had vendors come and go, but some have been with us from the very beginning, like Eden Eco and Blue Willow Vintage. It’s great to see Sarineen Organics back with their full range of organic skincare, and we’re proud to showcase incredible local artists like Tracey Creighton, Kath Unsworth, and John Martin, whose photography beautifully captures the Sapphire Coast.”

Located on Hylands Corner opposite the post office, The Essence is a bright, welcoming space filled with one of the most diverse product ranges in Merimbula. From postcards and drink bottles to bespoke artwork and wall hangings, there’s truly something for everyone.

At its recent AGM, the Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing local talent and maintaining this vibrant retail space that captures the heart and true Essence of Merimbula.
